Mirning Green Energy Limited Directors Present at First Nations Clean Energy Symposium
he Directors of Mirning Green Energy Limited (MGEL) have delivered their first presentation at the First Nations Clean Energy Symposium, held on Kabi Kabi Country, Sunshine Coast, Queensland.
 
The Symposium was about First Nations people sharing truths and experiences, the good and the challenging.
 
A clear message emerged: Aboriginal people across Australia are standing up to take control of what happens on their Country and how.
 
The principle of “nothing about us without us” rang strong throughout the event.
 
MGEL Directors, Alwyn Graham and Travis Tucker, contributed to two powerful panel sessions alongside other First Nations leaders who are at the forefront of the clean energy transition.
 
Alwyn and Travis outlined MGEL’s role as a commercial subsidiary of the WA Mirning People Aboriginal Corporation (WAMPAC), responsible for managing the Mirning People’s 10 per cent shareholding in the Western Green Energy Hub (WGEH).
MGEL is a registered charity, meaning any potential benefits from the project must flow back to the native title holders consistent with MGEL’s objects.
 
The directors also spoke about exploring potential opportunities for the Mirning People in the future if the project goes ahead.
 
Importantly, they reaffirmed that the Indigenous Land Use Agreement (ILUA) for WGEH is still under negotiation.
 
The Mirning People will have the final say on whether the project proceeds on their Country.
 
WAMPAC remains firmly committed to Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC).
 
In-depth community consultations will take place to ensure the Mirning People are fully informed and able to make their decision collectively.
