Mirning Marine Park Signing and Celebration

It’s official! Mirning Marine Park has been formally recognised in a signing ceremony at WA Parliament House.

Around 208,900 hectares of Mirning waters make up the new marine park.

Mirning Traditional Lands Aboriginal Corporation (MTLAC) directors Shilloh Peel, David Hirschausen and Leslie Schultz attended the signing ceremony, along with MTLAC CEO Clint Shaw.

Mirning Marine Park is part of the South Coast Marine Park, stretching along WA’s south coast, and will be jointly managed by Mirning Traditional Owners and The Department of Biodiversity Conservation and Attractions.

MTLAC directors and staff attended celebrations at Kaarta Koomba (Kings Park) on Whadjuk Country, acknowledging the addition of five million hectares of new national and marine parks and other conservation reserves across Western Australia.
